"Strictly Come Dancing" Series 2:

BBC1's Hit show "Strictly Come Dancing" is back for a 2nd series. The series will begin on BBC1 prime time, saturday night 23rd October 2004. The show will be run in the same format as series 1, except this time there will be 10 couples (instead of 8 in series 1).
Bruce Forsythe & Natasha Kaplinsky will present the BBC 1 Saturday night programme with Tess Daly joining later in the series (after the birth of her child).
BBC2 takes over the old BBC3 "Behind the scenes" programme. The new show is called "Strictly Come Dancing - It takes two" and the presenter is Claudia Winkleman. This show will air every week night (once the series commences) at 6.30pm.
All other aspects of the show remain the same, including the phone in voting and the judges.

Strictly African Dancing:

Another SCD spin off show is due to air on Saturday July 9th 2005 on BBC1 - "Strictly African Dancing". The main show airs at 6.30pm and the results show at 8.15pm.
The show consists of 6 celebrities of African or Caribbean origin paired with an African dance troupe performing on live TV - a traditional African dance. The celebrities will be in traditional costume and will once again be judged by a panel of experts. Although it is certain they will be persuading us to vote too.
The presenters are Natasha Kaplinsky (former SCD winner) and Martin Offiah (former SCD competitor). The following celebrities are due to take part:

  • 1st StarRobbie Earle Star- Winner (Broadcaster) and Former Footballer
  • 2nd Antonia Okonma - (Actress) Bad Girl's, 'Darlene'
  • 3rd Tessa Sanderson - (Athlete) Former Olympic Athlete
  • 4th Tupele Dorgu - (Actress) Coronation Street's 'Kelly Crabtree'
  • 5th Louis Emerick - (Actor) from 'Casualty' & 'Brookside'
  • 6th Tunde Baiyewu - (Singer) 'Lighthouse Family'

Christmas Special:

The christmas special of Strictly Come Dancing took place on Wednesday the 22nd of December at 8pm & 10pm on BBC1.
It took the form of a "Champion of Champions" competition, with 6 couples, 3 from series 1 & 3 from series 2 taking part.
They were as follows:

Strictly Ice Dancing:

Also at christmas a special spin-off show 'Strictly Ice Dancing' put celebrities through their paces as would-be professional ice-skaters. This programme aired on Boxing Day (26th December) at 6.30 pm on BBC1.
The show worked in a similar way to "Strictly Come Dancing", there will be 4 judges:

  • Craig Revel Horwood (Choreographer & familiar face on SCD)
  • Doreen Hoppe (former National and International ice dance competitor)
  • Nicky Slater (former ice dance National champion & ranked fifth in the World)
  • Chris Howarth (former British figure skating champion)
The judges will give their opinions, then the audience will have the chance to vote for their favourite couple.
The following celebrities & professionals took part:

    Arlene is best known for her work on countless musicals, both in the UK and Worldwide.
  • Judge 3 - Len Goodman (Pro Dancer/Judge)
    Len was a professional dancer and is now a professional judge. Len runs his own dance school in Kent.
  • Judge 4 - Craig Revel Horwood (Choreographer)
    Craig is a top theatre choreographer and received an Olivier Award for his work on the West End musical Spend, Spend, Spend.

  • The final night of voting raised over £860 thousand for "Children in Need" with over 7 million votes being cast.
  • Quote (Len on the competitors dancing the Viennese Waltz): "They were like 3 gladiators entering the ring: Spartacus, Hercules & Julian"!
  • Quote (Len to Julian re the samba): "I love the anticipation - is it Carlos or Dead Loss"!

  • Len compared Diarmuid's CCC to flowers. Saying that if the CCC were a flower it should be a Busy Lizzie, but Diarmuid's interpretation was more like a Virginia Creeper!

W8: Couples perform their favourite Ballroom & Latin dance from the series, plus a "Freestyle" dance which will not be marked by the judges.
Even though couples may have high total points, viewers votes cast the final decision on which couple leave each week.
