"Strictly Dance Fever":

Strictly Dance Fever is a new concept to the BBC - a spin off from "Strictly Come Dancing", but completely different in style and format.
Graham Norton hosted the 11 week series, where contestants battled it out to make it into the top 10. All the contestants were amateurs and all worked in pairs. The public have to vote during the first 3 Saturday night shows titled "Strictly Dance Fever - The Auditions".
Once the top 10 contestants were picked, they lived and worked together, learning new dances each week, ready to perform live on the remaining 8 Saturday night shows.

Judging of the top 10 took the same format as "SCD" - the judges vote makes up 50% of the overall score, & the public phone in makes the remaining 50%. Each week the contestants with the lowest points left.

There will one again be "extra" shows, with behind the scenes gossip etc. The Saturday night BBC3 host is to be Zoe Ball. The nightly BBC3 roundup & fanzine program is to be hosted by Joe Mace.

The winners of the Strictly Dance Fever Are Joseph Hall & Sadie Flower

The Judges:
  • Judge 1 - Arlene Phillips (Choreographer)
Arlene is best known for her work on countless musicals, both in the UK and Worldwide.
  • Judge 2 - Luca Tommassini (Choreographer)
Luca has choreographed for Whitney Houston, Madonna, Geri Halliwell & Kylie, as well as starring in the film "Evita" as Madonna's Tango partner.
  • Judge 3 - Stacey Haynes (Choreographer/Performer)
Stacey has appeared with and choreographed for Sir Cliff Richard. She is also a top theatre choreographer, working on shows such as Cats, Chicago & Starlight Express.
  • Judge 4 - Jason Gardiner (Dancer/Actor/Choreographer)
Known most recently for his expertise as a "lifestyle guru" on "queer eye for a straight guy" UK. He has also regularly danced and acted in many shows and films.

The Dances:
  • Cuban Salsa
A 'saucy' Latin-American style dance, with subtle drop's & lifts.

  • Rock 'n' Roll
A classic 50's Jitterbug/Jive style dance, with lots of energy & lifts, spins, twirls.

  • The Hustle
A 70's dance, originating in the USA. Danced to Disco music, with lots of tricky arm movements & almost continuous twirling for the lady.

  • Classic Disco
Think 'Saturday Night Fever' & John Travolta. The tricky bit is that most of this dance is spent apart, so synchronisation is key!

  • Argentine Tango
The most passionate dance of the 10. Originating from the brothels of Buenos Ayres... the story of a man's control & a woman's seductiveness. Watch out for close holds & intertwining, fast leg movements from the lady.

  • Lambada
A popular 'phase dance' in the early 90's, originating in Brazil, known as 'The Forbidden Dance'. A very sexy, close, Latin style dance with accentuated hip movements.

  • Lindyhop
Derived from the Charleston in the 20's, a phenomenally fast dance where couples should 'pack the dance with choreography' & enjoy themselves.

  • Jitterbug
A more gentle form of the Lindyhop, with a flirty edge. Danced more upright, with less lifts & floor work.

  • Mambo
The original Cuban street dance, where partners challenge each other for control. Very similar to the Salsa in appearance, but it does have subtle differences.

  • The Shag
An early 30's swing dance, danced close with the upper body, but further apart from the waist down. Partners often take it in turns to be centre of attention.

Week 6:- Each couple dances Milonga & a famous dance from a show.
Week 7:- Each couple dances Waltz & a different swing dance.
